Social Networks Are Becoming a Security Risk [SURVEY]

According to a report by Sophos, malware and spam are on the rise on social networks such as Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn.

…of facebook users did not correctly differentiate ‘malware’ from spam.It’s really not surprising that spammers are moving to social networks as their platform of choice. Lacking the well developed spam filters that emails have, and being able to add a more ‘personal’ touch makes it a natural progression. Does this mean we should immediately condemn facebook as a security risk and bar all access? Nope. What it does mean, is that social networks are going to have to work hard to develop methods to combat the spam, which I’m sure they already are, and users will have to use a bit of common sense. When a FB friend sends me a heart or virtual hug, I almost always feel that’s a spam bomb or some type of spyware waiting to happen.
